Every Child MattersEvery Child Matters is the Governent policy that recognises the all children deserve the right to be treated fairly and equally in schools. Following a detailed response to Lord Lamings report regarding the death of Victoria Climbie Every Child Matters began to ensure that every child has the ability and support to fufill their potential. Every child matters understands the differences between people and has no regard for colour, race, disability or background. Every child will be treated fairly without exception and will have a fair learning environment in which to develop and learn. Accountable inclusion is an integral part of the Every Child Matters policy. The Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) recognises the concept of the government's performance management principles and intends to support schools to success through a model of moderated self review. The Quality Inclusion Mark emphasis that all staff are treating pupils fairly allowing the school to increase in gaining success. The concept of the Inclusion Quality Mark can accompany all aspects of Special Educational Needs (SEN) support and can be adapted using the steps for inclusion into the learning environment enabling the Inclusion Quality Mark to play a key role in overall school effectiveness. Observed by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA) the Inclusion Quality Mark follows the Special Educational Need and Disability Act 2001 which promotes and establishes a child's right to be included into the mainstream and includes inclusion whilst listening and taking into account the wishes of the child and parent. All pupils are to be treated the same regardless of any disability.

The Sign that You Are Serious About Inclusion

What do people think about your school?

Do they think that it provides an excellent standard of education for its children, that it welcomes parental involvement and is a vibrant part of the local community?

The Inclusion Quality Mark is the only nationally recognised standard that can prove objectively, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that your school cares about inclusion and that it shines through in every thing that you do.

Rigorous, Achievable, Well-Respected

The Inclusion Quality Mark comprises of ten elements which deal with inclusion in its widest sense and in all aspects of school life. Since it is externally assessed and moderated you can be sure that gaining the mark is a notable achievement that will not become devalued with time.

A notable achievement yes, but far from impossible. The book that accompanies the standard is a road-map for good inclusive practice. It takes you through all the stages, and provides checklists to make sure nothing is left out.

It is because of these things that the IQM is so well-respected. You can see below what ex-HMCI Mike Tomlinson had to say about the standard, but there’s more reaction from clients and figures in the educational world on our Benefits page.

We hope you enjoy this website and find the information helpful. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
