Observed by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA) the Inclusion Quality Mark follows the Special Educational Need and Disability Act 2001 which promotes and establishes a child's right to be included into the mainstream and includes inclusion whilst listening and taking into account the wishes of the child and parent. Inclusion Quality Mark Overview

The Inclusion Quality Mark comprises ten elements which deal with inclusion in its widest sense and in all aspects of school life.

 IQM Elements

  • The ten elements are all practical parts of the life of a school
  • They are divided into 3 core groups:
      • The individual pupil
      • The staff focus
      • The family and community focus
  • A school assesses if it can meet the criteria in each of these ten elements related to the school its staff, pupils and the local authority (were appropriate).

The standard is supported with a detailed and constructive handbook which combines the framework with the outline for the portfolio for assessment – this is not meant to be a large document. As our assessors say “less is more”.

Caroline Coles and Robert Hancock (co-authors) have worked vigorously to ensure that this is a manageable and useable framework for schools/colleges to evaluate their own performance.

You may already have the book and wish to register your interest in being assessed against the standard, if so click on the link below and a member of our team will contact you.
